Zinco Mining Corporation (the Company) acquired the "Jalisco VMS Project" by staking over a period of years between 1998 and 2007. The Project occurs between the cities of Puerto Vallarta and Talpa de Allende (Fig. 1; 20°15' north, and 105°00' west), and consists of 10 mining and 4 exploitation concessions (Fig. 2, Table 1). Collectively, there are 6 volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) districts in the concession area. These include Cuale, Desmoronado, Aranjuez, Bramador, El Rubí and La Mina. Previous operators in the current concession area include Industrias Peñoles, the Metal Mining Agency of Japan and Teck Cominco. El Rubí is entirely owned by a Mexican individual, but the Company has complete ownership of Desmoronado and La Mina, and partial ownership of Cuale, Bramador and Aranjuez.
There are several access roads onto the Property. A country road from Puerto Vallarta to the village of Cuale provides access to the Cuale mining district. From Talpa de Allende, a network of roads provides access to Desmoronado, Aranjuez and Bramador. The closest major city is Puerto Vallarta near the Nayarit border, and the nearest industrial city is Guadalajara in central Jalisco state, about 165 kilometers to the east. Cattle ranching, logging, and coffee farming are the main economic activities in the region. There is a sawmill operating in the village of Cuale.
The Project area is centered in the Sierra Madre del Sur. The topography is rolling to abrupt, and elevations range from 2400 meters at the top of Cerro El Canton to about 300 meters in the hamlet of Bramador. At lower elevations (below 500 meters), the vegetation is mainly "selva baja caducifolia", which is characterized mainly by trees less than 15 meters tall. Plants typical of the higher areas are Sierra pine and oak trees. The rainy season is from June to October, with intermittent winter rains.
